I am always looking for motivated graduate students who are interested in pursueing optical-infrared-radio astronomy, astronomical polarimetry, and the researches of the Milky Way Galaxy.

For Prospective Students

Kagoshima University provides an interactive environment for astronomical research. If you are interested in joining my group, please consider the following:

Research Topics: Star formation and evolution, interstellar medium surrounding the supermassive black hole of our Galaxy, and the roles of magnetic fields in their evolution.
Facilities: Access to VERA, Iriki optical/infrared 1-m telescopes, Nobeyama 45m telescope, and other radio telescopes.

We also welcome PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who wish to deepen their research in astronomy and astrophysics. The following external and university fellowship programs may support your participation in our research, education, and outreach activities.

日本学術振興会特別研究員（JSPS Research Fellowship）

博士後期課程の学生は「DC1」「DC2」として、学位取得後のポスドク研究者は「PD」として、日本学術振興会（JSPS）特別研究員制度に応募することができます。採用されると、研究奨励金に加え、科学研究費助成事業（科研費）への応募資格も得られます。

PhD students may apply as “DC1” or “DC2”, and postdoctoral researchers may apply as “PD” under the JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists. Fellows receive a research stipend and become eligible to apply for Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI).

KU-DREAM研究員（鹿児島大学独自のポスドク支援制度）

鹿児島大学では、博士の学位取得後5年以内のポスドク研究者を対象に、特任助教として雇用し、研究環境（スペース・研究費）と身分を提供する独自のプログラム「KU-DREAM（Kagoshima University postDoctoral REsearcher ProgrAM）」を実施しています。受入教員との共同申請により、本研究室・本活動を拠点として研究を進めることも可能です。

Kagoshima University offers its own postdoctoral fellowship program, KU-DREAM (Kagoshima University postDoctoral REsearcher ProgrAM), for researchers within five years of obtaining their PhD. Selected fellows are employed as specially appointed assistant professors, receiving both a research environment (space and funding) and an academic position. Applications are made jointly with a host faculty member, and successful applicants may conduct their research within our lab and activities.

Join Our Research Group / 鹿児島大学の学部生・大学院生として入学し、研究する

Those who wish to conduct research in astronomy and astrophysics with our group can join us by enrolling as an undergraduate or graduate student at Kagoshima University.

Undergraduate Admission / 学部入学

学部学生として研究グループに参加するには、まず鹿児島大学理学部への入学が必要です。
理学部で基礎科学を学びながら、学年が進むにつれて研究室での活動に関わることができます。

To join our research group as an undergraduate, students first need to be admitted to the Faculty of Science at Kagoshima University. While building a foundation in the sciences, students can gradually become involved in laboratory research as they advance through their studies.

Graduate Admission / 大学院進学

大学院で私たちの研究グループに参加するには、鹿児島大学大学院理工学研究科への進学が必要です。
天文学・宇宙物理学の研究を希望する方は、理学系物理・宇宙プログラムへの進学をご検討ください。

To join our research group at the graduate level, admission to the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Kagoshima University is required. Students who wish to pursue research in astronomy and astrophysics are encouraged to apply through the Physics and Space Science Program.

また、観測データ解析、AI for Science、機械学習など、情報科学との融合的な研究に関心のある方は、情報科学専攻協創情報コースへの進学も可能です。この場合も、私たちの研究グループを研究指導教員として選定した上で、共同で研究を進めることができます。

Students interested in interdisciplinary research combining astronomy with informatics — such as observational data analysis, AI for Science, and machine learning — may also apply through the Co-creative Informatics Course, Department of Informatics. In this case as well, students can select our group as their research supervisor and pursue joint research.

International Graduate Applicants / 海外からの大学院進学希望者の方へ

海外から鹿児島大学大学院理工学研究科への進学を希望される方も歓迎します。
研究テーマと指導体制が合致する場合には、私たちの研究グループでの受入れを検討することができます。

International applicants who wish to pursue graduate study in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Kagoshima University are also welcome. If the research theme and supervisory arrangements are a good match, admission to our research group may be considered.

また、大学院レベルでは、日本政府（MEXT）国費外国人留学生として受け入れられる可能性があります。国費外国人留学生には、大使館推薦による方式と、鹿児島大学からの推薦による方式があります。応募には、受入れを希望する鹿児島大学の指導教員をあらかじめ探し、内諾を得る必要があります。

At the graduate level, applicants may also have the possibility of admission as a MEXT (Japanese Government) Scholarship international student. There are two main routes — nomination through a Japanese embassy, or university-recommended nomination through Kagoshima University. Applicants are required to first identify a prospective supervisor at Kagoshima University and obtain their preliminary consent.
